WALT DISNEY COMPANY PROJECT With a dream and an ambition, a young man, Walt Disney arrived in Santa Fe California with a cartoon character named Alice. Within months after the Alice cartoon became a hit, Walt and his brother created the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio, which after a couple of years was renamed to Walt Disney Studio. In 1928, five years after his arrival to California, Walt was able to introduce a new cartoon character, Mickey Mouse. With this introduction, people were seeking amusement and to get their minds away from the gloom of depression. Since then, Walts ideas and involvement in cartoons led to further success. At the Disneyland website, a family can create an experience that best suits them. A family member can choose an experience that ranges from a family experience with toddlers or kids or with teens. For a vacation with the toddlers, the families are recommended attractions that emphasize fun instead of fright, and to take them to live shows and parades with the Disney characters, then where to have all the meals for the day and where to shop for toys and gifts. In any story with a recurring dark theme there always must be an outsider from humanity who somehow stands out from the seemingly equal community. In the case of Shakespeares Othello the outsider from humanity would be Iago for he truly stands out from the rest of society. Although Othello may be physically put out of the community, it seems that on an emotional and egotistical level Iago puts himself out of society further then Othellos blackness does. He is not merely manipulative, as other villains are; he turns aspects of truth and good qualities, which he does not possess, and uses them as weakness for his own scheme. He deceives people to follow his plans by telling them the truth and what seems to be good advice. One of Iagos astucious qualities is his ability to take the good quality of others and use them against them. He takes it even further, however, as he has no realization of the evil he has done. Iago takes what most of us see as good and uses those traits against characters in the play. Movie Character Analysis Central Station Essay Most people have experienced a series of events that impacted their lives dramatically. In the movie, Central Station, Josue is a 9 year-old orphaned boy, who is in search of his father. Dora is a retired school teacher, turned letter writer. Dora joins Josue in his journey. Dora and Josue experience a series of influential events, where they grow to love each other. A series of events, leading to the turning point, changes Dora from a self-centered and uncaring person to a self-sacrificing and compassionate woman. The movie takes place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in the Central Station where Dora writes and sends letters for the illiterate. Dora helped Josue and his mother, Ana, send a first and negative letter to his father, Jesus. When Dora comes home from work, we find out that Josue’s father is a drunk, and that she reads the letters with her friend Irene for sheer entertainment, tearing them to pieces afterward. One day, when Josue and his mother were walking away and across the street, Josue drops a toy he was carrying. While his mother calls out his name, a bus runs over her and kills her. Josue is left orphaned and alone at the station for days. Despite Josue’s situation, Dora leaves him to fend for himself as she continues her life. She does not aid the poor orphan Josue until she realizes that she may reap profits from the boy. Dora sells Josue to black market criminals for 1,000 dollars, which she uses to purchase a television. Dora experiences a turning point when she decides to save Josue from two black market criminals. This sudden change occurs when her friend Irene, is suspicious about the television. Once she finds out how the television was purchased, she makes Dora realize the error she made by telling her that Josue’s buyers sell children’s organs for profit. During the turning point, Dora has a change of heart as she uneasily tosses and turns in her bed, unable to sleep. Dora rises from her sleep, collects three photographs of children from unsent letters to serve as a, â€Å"selling proposition,† and distraction. While the man and woman from the black market discuss over the pictures, Dora uses their distraction as an opportunity to rescue Josue. The two escape and embark on a journey to find Josue’s father, Jesus. During the exposition and rising action of, Central Station, Dora is a selfish and uncaring woman. Dora is revealed as a self-centered woman when orphaned Josue asks Dora to write a letter to his father for him. Instead of aiding and consoling him, Dora demands Josue to pay her. Another example is when Dora sells Josue to black market criminals for a thousand dollars, to buy a television. In this instance, Dora thinks about herself and the profit she would reap from Josue. Dora is revealed as an uncaring person when she returns home with a stack of all the letters she’s been paid to write and send. Instead of sending the letters, she sits with her friend Irene and begins to read them for entertainment, afterward tearing them up and throwing them in the trash. Another example of being an uncaring woman is when Dora notices that Josue is alone, and orphaned, yet she ignores him and goes on with her life. In, Central Station, the rising action leads to a turning point, in which Dora transforms into a compassionate and self-sacrificing woman. Dora’s first self-sacrificing action is when she risks her life to save Josue from the black market. In order to save Josue, Dora risks her life. Dora is also seen as a self sacrificing woman in Central Station. The first example is when Dora sacrifices everything, including her life, to take Josue on a journey to his father. Old Man And The Sea And Other Stories English: Book Report: Hemingway's Old Man And The Sea July 03, 1998 English Old Man and the Sea This part of the story has to do with Santiago against nature and the sea. In this part of the story, he goes out and fights nature in the form of terrible forces and dangerous creatures, among them, a marlin, sharks and hunger. He starts the story in a small skiff and moves out in a journey to capture a fish after a long losing streak of eighty-four days. Unfortunately his friend must desert him due to this problem and a greater force, his parents. Santiago must go out into the danger alone. For three harsh days and nights he fights a fish of enormous power. This is the second form of nature he must conquer. Earlier in the story, the first part of nature is himself, for which he must fight off his hunger. This is a harsh part of the story. He manages though to get a few bites in the form of flying fish and dolphin of which he would like to have salt on. This part of the story tells of a cold and harsh sea, that is, one that has value and mystery as well a s death and danger. It has commercial value as well as the population of life in it. It is dark and treacherous though, and every day there is a challenge. A similar story tells about a tidal pool with life called `Cannery Road'. This part of the story has to deal with figures of Christ. It mainly deals with Santiago as being a figure of Christ and other characters as props, that is, characters which carry out the form of biblical themes. On the day before he leaves when he wakes up, Manolin, his helper, comes to his aid with food and drink. Also a point that might be good is that he has had bad luck with his goal for a great period of time and is sure it will work this time. Later, though, when Santiago needs him for the quest he sets out to do, Manolin deserts him, although he may not have wanted to at this time. In the novel Santiago comes upon a force bigger than his skiff, the marlin which misleads him out far past his intended reach. This is where he starts to lose his strengt h against something which seems a greater force. Santiago has a struggle of three days, which is significent because of the three days in Easter, and continues to fight on though his goal may not aquire anything. This is another idea through which Christ did, a struggle to get a goal done even though it may mean certain destruction to himself. This might accomplish nothing but the satisfaction of doing this and also has great risks. Finally he comes upon a painful experience with his hand which is in great pain and won't move. This is useful in the place where Christ loses his physical self and has less to deal with. On the third day, he recovers himself and returns to his home even though his only remaining treasure was a broken skiff, experience, and a torn up marlin. And in the final conclusion, you can see him dragging the mast of his skiff, a cross-like object, in his hand. This story has a certain sequence of events, first it has a hunter vs. his prey. This hunter does respect th e prey. Throughout the book it has this series of events: encounter, battle, defeat, and respect for the prey. This is Hemmingway's `Code of Honor'. This part of the novel has to do with relationships between two characters. The first to discuss are Santiago and Manolin, Manolin being the small follower of the old man named Santiago. Manolin is a small person that follows Santiago and listens to his wisdom. They treat each other unfriendly though for Manolin calls the Santiago 'old man' and he calls Manolin `boy' which seems to be absurd.
