Former President, Obama once said, â€Å"We are big and vast and diverse; a nation of people with different backgrounds and beliefs, different experiences and stories, but bound by our shared ideal that no matter who you are or what you look like, how you started off, or how and who you love, America is a place where you can write your own destiny.† Many things have changed in the past decade, the United States electing its first African-American president not only for one term but for two. President Obama administration helped expand and advance equality regarding the LGBT community. The Obama Administration provided support and equality towards the LGBT community. In Part one, David asks his girlfriend, Hella to marry him in P aris, but she travels to Spain to allow herself time to think about his proposal. While he waits for her response, he moves to Paris and meets up with his friend Jacques. They all go to their friend Guillaumes gay bar, and David befriends the new bartender-- an Italian man named Giovanni. As time passes by David and Giovanni get closer, and one day they both spend a night in Giovannis bedroom. Part two consists of five chapters which contain the most important information regarding the events which led to Giovanni being accused of murder. The starting of part two David begins to have a sense of Giovannis inner despair. He knows that one day, Hella will be back from Spain and they will separate. David gets two letters – one from his father and one from Hella. His father asks him to come home and wants to know what is keeping him so long. Hella announces that she will be back from Spain in a few weeks and that her answer to Davids proposal of marriage is yes. Giovanni and David get into an argument over Davids sexuality and lover choice. Giovanni is upset at this situation, so instead, he goes back to the bar he used to work at, in hopes of getting rehired.
